Suburban sprawl of the dead

No kidding. The Detroit News has an interesting and somewhat disturbing feature on family members moving their dead family from Detroit cemetaries into those in the suburbs. A couple thoughts I had:

  • if it’s indeed racially motivated as the article mentions, do these people realize that our skin decomposes pretty quickly. We’re neither white, black, red, yellow or green (well, maybe green) after we’re 6-feet under? haha
  • The cemetaries that are seeing its residents up and leave now have more real estate to re-sell to the next dead person. Or is that plot owned by the family? How does cemetary real estate work?
  • People are paying upwards to $5000 to disinter their dead family members. Huh?
