I’ll admit it, I do initially judge a book by its cover. It’s hard not to. Check out this video on book cover design with John Gall that I found via Jeff Fisher at blog-omotives.

I witnessed first-hand how difficult book design was as I watched my business partner, Kimberly Leclercq, labor extensively over the design of her book’s cover as well as the illustrations inside. As someone who does a lot of designing for a living, I was amazed at that deeper level of detail and perfection that is required when trying to coordinate a book’s words with the visuals.

As Kimberly illustrated her book, I saw a lot of outstanding design get wadded up and thrown in the trash. Those are the steps you take in creating anything, but for some reason I think it happens even more with books.
