John Coleman, the grumpy old founder of the Weather Channel, was on Fox News yesterday morning saying how global warming is just a big scam orchestrated by those with political agendas and apparently no better time on their hands.

Personally, I’m standing somewhere in between Al Gore and Coleman. Having not studied it in great depth like these two individuals and only gathering my information from the mainstream media, I certainly can’t offer a sound opinion.

However, say global warming is indeed BS. What exactly is wrong with this relatively new focus on us taking better care of the world in which we live. Say it doesn’t have any drastic long-term effect on things? It’s like saying I’m not going to take care of my body by eating healthy and exercising because I could get hit by a bus tomorrow and all that wouldn’t matter. As well, I’m sure there are those with a pack-a-day smoking habit living into their 90s.

I believe we’re helping ourselves and the world by being aware and taking action to preserve our environment. Is it going to add years to our lives? Is it going to keep the world from imploding into itself? I’m not exactly sure. But if new research came out today saying that there were no ill effects caused by shaking your baby, would that prompt you to pick up your child and shake him wildly? I would hope not.

So why “trash” the actions people are taking to clean up our environment whether there’s any noticeable effect or not?
