Why can’t there be an American car company that is as cool as Apple? It just so happens that media week for the North American International Auto Show in Detroit coincides with MacWorld in San Francisco.

Two big shows…two unrelated industries…one big winner. 

As a subscriber to a ton of blogs design, technology and automotive related, I can’t help but think how much Apple is a media king compared to any of the car companies.

Steve Jobs today introduces the thinnest labtop to hit the market, updates to Iphone and AppleTV and the news is everywhere.

Meanwhile, back at the auto show, concept cars are rolling onto the stage.

Cars we can’t drive for another five years, but a laptop we’ll be able to take for a spin in a couple of weeks.

What would it take for a winner, a real winner, to emerge from the auto industry? Could it someday be Tesla Motors? Why can’t it be GM, Ford or Chrysler.
