Macy’s

When Macy’s bought Marshall Fields last year I really wondered  what kind of affect it would have on the department store. A year later, I know. Macy’s has essentially turned a great store—which in Michigan was also formerly the very popular Hudsons—into an unpleasant combination of TJ Maxx and Walmart. Seriously. That is what the experience is like.

In fact, it is so bad that it’s hilarious that Macy’s anchors Somerset North with Nordstroms. The mall’s layout serves as a visual illustration of a horrible department store not at all concerned with customer service nor its product offerings (Macy’s on the left) with a store that is obsessed with it (Nordstrom on the right).

When I read that Macy’s is going to be laying off 271 workers in the northern midwest, I now shudder at the thought of this store getting even worse than it is!
