Bad Handwriting and prescription pads
I’ve often wondered how in this world of technology and safeguards that doctors were still allowed to scribble out medical prescriptions on black and white notepads. According to this Fast Company article, nearly 7000 deaths may be attributed to poor handwriting by doctors. Unbelievable! I’ve also wondered how prescription pads can be created on simple, cheap notepads in black ink....

Always a Tiger →
I have to admit I’m not a big fan of taglines for sports teams. They’re usually cheesy (Goin’ to Work), extremely off the mark (Do you believe in now?) or so overplayed (Hockeytown) that…

The Kleenex of phones →
I hate to say it, but this is another blog post about President Barack Obama’s Blackberry. In case you’ve been on another planet for the past six months, 1) we have a new president and 2) Research…

The NHL is right, again.
It seems the NHL is making a lot of good decisions lately. The Winter Classic is a hit, there hasn’t yet been expansion in the Carribean and they’re just simply doing a better job marketing the product overall. Contrary to what many people feel, I think the NHL’s decision to “suspend” players for not playing in today’s All Star is a great idea. I’m old...

Save it
Max: I gotta go to the bathroom.
Me: Can you wait the bathrooms here are disgusting? We're leaving in a minute.
Max: Ok. I can save it.

Inauguration...it's a bit overrated
Like Big Three CEOs foolishly flying their private jets to Washington D.C. in hopes of grabbing cash for their failing companies, I wonder about all these celebrations surrounding the inauguration of Barack Obama. How many official inaugural balls are really necessary? A frenzy over which fashion designer is going to make Michelle Obama’s gown? Millions of people traveling cross-country to...

A case for more faces →
As I watched Apple’s stock stumble and irate investors threaten legal action after hearing that the company’s CEO, Steve Jobs, was taking a leave of absence until June, I thought about how this could…

Royal Oak is a mess...
It’s pretty much been snowing non-stop for days. Temperatures are in the single digits on both sides of zero. It’s miserable out there. It’s even more miserable in Royal Oak. If you had an aerial view of the city you’d think we’re creating a big quilt out of the downtown area. Squares of shoveled snow and clean sidewalk next to rectangles of trampled down gray snow next to...

The Baseball Hall of Fame
For as long as I can remember my dad has had a Hall of Fame vote. As a member of the Baseball Writers Association of America he receives a ballot every year and each December I always get a kick out of reviewing the list of eligible players. Obvious no-brainers along with guys who just managed to squeak out 10 years of MLB service, they’re all there. It’s always fun to debate with him...

I need to get more done!
My oldest son, Max, turned five today. I can’t believe he’s already half a decade old. How did it fly by so fast? He went from a little baby to an amazing little boy who’s smart, funny and full of energy. I used to be able to hold him in one hand and now he’s running up and down the soccer field scoring six goals a game and loving it! It all kind of makes me wonder how...
