Happy Earth Day →
I think it’s great that the current trend—which I hope turns into a permanent way of life for every society—of being green is the biggest thing going these days. You really can’t go anywhere or…
The Droste Effect
I never knew it had a name, but it is always a wild experience whenever I come across it. I start squinting for the end only to end up with a headache. It’s like searching for the brick wall that signifies the end of the universe. Check out this post on Droste Effect Packaging. Now what’s the technique called when you z-fold the Land O Lakes Butter package to bring the Indian’s...
Outstanding logo presentation...well worth the 10... →
Last summer I had the pleasure to hear Steff Geissbuhler speak at a conference. His presentation alone was worth the entire price of admission. To kick things off he showed this video. Jaws dropped…
iPod Play Count
I don’t know why, but I get a kick out of looking at how many times I’ve listened to songs on my iPod. I also like to see how much music I haven’t listened to since I started consuming my tunes through this wonderful device. This goes back to March 2006 when I got my most recent iPod. Here’s a few meaningless Dave Klonke iPod facts: Number one played song: I Love This Bar...

Sometimes I’m really surprised at the superfluous efforts companies take in trying to protect their trademark—especially when it only makes the plaintiff company look bad. There’s no doubt…

I don't heart this t-shirt →
After hearing Milton Glaser speak at this week’s FUSE conference I thought it would be a great idea to buy my kids each an “I Heart NY” t-shirt. What a thoughtful and appropriate gift and I do always…
FUSE round-up →
I returned late last night from New York where I attended the 2008 FUSE Conference. Debbie Millman and the folks at FUSE put on an outstanding conference. I listened to over 20 speakers and met…
Star Wars in the real world
This is really cool. Some of them are so life-like.

10 Businesses Facing Extinction in 10 Years
I think to a lesser extent you can add watches to this list. I’m not talking about high-end Rolexes, but your everyday watch. Our cell phones have clocks. Our computers have clocks. I probably haven’t worn a watch in a year and I used to feel like I forgot to put on pants if I walked out of the house without wearing my watch. dihard: A 2007 article from Entrepreneur.com discusses...

Caught in the rain
Got caught in the rain for the first time tonight on my motorcycle. Didn’t come down too hard, but we probably got a little too far away from home considering the weather forecast looked pretty ugly. Hey, you have to ride through rain for the first time sometime, right?
We, or at least I, love it! →
Here’s a branding campaign that we all can appreciate. At least I think so. This is the new identity of the We Campaign—a project of Al Gore’s Alliance for Climate Protection. …

I’ve written a lot about Starbucks in this space, so I’m going to pass while everyone else swarms around the big happenings that came out of the coffee chain today. A couple reasons why I’m not…

Starbucks starts serving new ‘everyday’ coffee... →
So the message is…the new Starbucks coffee will put hair on your chest. jakoblodwick: This is the most zeitgeisty thing imaginable. This so perfectly captures the times we’re living in, down to the second. So many great lines but this one takes the cake for Best Representation of USA2008: “To promote the new brew, Starbucks will spend at least two months serving all its coffee and...
Long Way Round
Speaking of motorcycle diaries, I recently watched the entire Long Way Round series that covered Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman’s motorcycle journey from London to New York—the long way round. It was definitely worth watching whether you ride or not. One hundred and fifteen days through 12 countries and a great majority of the ride was on unpaved roads. It’s the best thing...
My motorcycle diaries...
Rode again tonight. 72 degrees and beautiful. Headed north and came back by way of I-94. It was my first time on the freeway and, of course, first time getting the speedometer up to 85. Nice. A bit windy, but it was amazing—the wind, the freedom, the bugs on the visor. I’m ready to go again. I like this bike more than I ever imagined. Of course, I haven’t had any close calls with cars...

First decent ride
I took the bike out for my first good ride out on the road last night. In three words, I love it! Rode up to Anchor Bay and back. The ride was smooth and comfortable. My biggest fear of learning how to shift gears was eliminated. It’s much easier than driving a stick on a car. Can’t wait to go out again!
I wonder what they think?
Walking through Borders yesterday, this book caught my attention so I picked it up. The author, Debbie Millman, will be a speaker at the FUSE Design Conference that I’ll be attending in a few weeks. I sort of cringe at the title of graphic designer even though I do design a lot of graphics for a living. Looking at the names of the well-known designers that Millman interviewed, I’m...
World Series favorites?
After two games, the Tigers have matched their worst start ever. I didn’t even have to look that up. :)
