So who will it be for the dems?
Now that it looks like we know who’ll be the Republican candidate, who will be McCain’s opponent?

Sex sells...so what?!?!?
I find it a little bit funny when people still seem appalled when they see companies still using attractive people in their ads. This blog that I happened upon while looking at another blog kind of made me chuckle. Are we going to start seeing affirmative action against good looking people? Do you think people really buy Blackberries because of all the beautiful users they feature on their...

I guess it's not just my iPhone...
Seth Godin pointed out that his iPhone voicemail does’t work if his phone is connected to a Bluetooth device. I noticed the same thing when I was trying to check voicemail from my car which has Microsoft Sync. Another thing, my phone shuts off completely if I un-mute the phone. Happened yesterday after church and a couple times before that.

Woodward Dream Cruise
The Oakland Business Review reports that the Woodward Dream Cruise has hired a new PR firm to help them secure a title sponsor for the 2008 cruise. Last year there wasn’t a title sponsor for the event who was willing to fork over the cash to earn the honor. Personally, I think the coordinators and PR people are looking at this event totally wrong. Sure it brings in almost 2 million people,...

Today's journalism...
I’m just watching some of this Heath Ledger stuff on TV. At this point, all we officially know is that he’s dead. CNN, and I’m sure all the other networks, are talking about a drug overdose, suicide, foul play. Whatever happened to “cause of death unknown” until it’s actually known?

Writer's strike
Do people really miss this? I think it’s kind of like the NHL strike. Even people who followed hockey found something else to do. I am not moved by this strike one bit. Sure, I watch tv, but if there’s no new programming next Fall am I going to lose my mind? No. I’ll read more. I’ll work out more. I’ll do anything…but it won’t be missing any television...

It's cold...it's January...and the Fed has to...
What a wonderful day. Not since September 17, 2001 has the Fed had to do an emergency cut like this. It’s kind of like throwing up before you get to the bathroom. You feel it coming. You know it’s going to happen. Then bam!…you’re trying to catch it in your hands before it gets all over the place. Now that you’ve puked, you feel much better. Unfortunately, that better...

Great article comparing 1960s design to today’s Apple products.

Buying a car
I recently bought a new car. Driving a new car off the lot is great. Sitting in the showroom and listening to the BS of the salesperson and his manager is another story. Now, before I go on, I must say that this wasn’t my worst car-buying experience.  With that said, thanks to my research and persistence I saved myself $150 a month on my lease. Yes, you read that correctly, $150 a month!...

Why not?
Why can’t there be an American car company that is as cool as Apple? It just so happens that media week for the North American International Auto Show in Detroit coincides with MacWorld in San Francisco. Two big shows…two unrelated industries…one big winner.  As a subscriber to a ton of blogs design, technology and automotive related, I can’t help but think how much Apple...

Macy's
When Macy’s bought Marshall Fields last year I really wondered  what kind of affect it would have on the department store. A year later, I know. Macy’s has essentially turned a great store—which in Michigan was also formerly the very popular Hudsons—into an unpleasant combination of TJ Maxx and Walmart. Seriously. That is what the experience is like. In fact, it is so bad that...

The state of newspapers...
Here’s a post I wrote this morning for my branding blog, Doesyourbusiness.com. Another thing I’d like to know about the Detroit dailies: why does the business section add up to what only seems to be two pages of content? There’s a lot going on here. The economy may suck, but obviously that’s newsworthy from a business sense.

If we only had a video camera back in the day...
Being one of the top five greatest table hockey players (I can only truly compare myself to one other person, so I’m being conservative) of all time, I can appreciate these videos.

13 years isn't what it used to be...
I saw the other day that Alex Ovechkin signed a 13-year, $124 million contract with the Washington Capitals. I’ll be 49 when that contract is up! That’s not a great feeling, but it is a kick in the butt to get out there and keep moving!

Go Ahead, Hit Me!
(NOTE: As you read this, I want you to know that I’m NOT suicidal. I’m just upset!) About a dozen years ago I was hit by a car in a Toys R’ Us parking lot. I’m ok. I was actually ok immediately after the incident. It was a little nudge from a car backing out of a spot in a busy parking lot days before Christmas. Since then, there have been a couple more close calls. The...

Cry Me a Primary
I really thought Hillary’s crying episode after the Iowa caucuses was going to hurt her. What do I know? She goes out and wins New Hampshire. I still think it may have a longer-term affect. Some may say her showing her emotional side will prove she is human. I disagree. I think it portrays a lack of strength and leadership. What is she going to do following a terrorist attack or how is she...

Why weren't certain things said?
“Tell me what I can do. Tell me what I can do. Tell me what you want me to do.” I think Brian McNamee asked Roger Clemens that question almost a dozen times during their taped phone conversation. Why didn’t Clemens say “come to this press conference and tell them the truth that I didn’t do steroids!” On the flip side, why didn’t McNamee ever say...

I'M HERE...
It was just about exactly a year ago when I started a blog for my business, SOZO | Pivotal. Throughout the year I found myself always wanting to blog about things that weren’t at all related to the focus of my company and it’s blog—branding and identity. In fact, there were times when I got too off-topic—at least that’s what people were telling me. So, here I am. I’ve...
